Using A Disney World Orlando Map

One thing you don't want to do is buy a Disney World Orlando map. You're throwing your money away with the number of free maps that are easily available. And you certainly don't want to relay on any map you purchased before arriving. Any map more than a month or two old could be almost useless since new rides and attractions are popping up frequently. When you check into your hotel you should ask for a map. And if you are staying at a Disney World hotel, they'll have detailed maps available of all the Disney theme parks and other Disney entertainment areas as well as of the hotel itself. Since these maps are highly detailed and use extensive graphics, a fairly young child can learn to use them pretty quickly.

Aside from helping you find your way around the theme parks, Disney maps offer you some valuable information about rides including if it has a FastPass system. They'll also tell you the routes of parades and the times for those and for concerts and shows. One tricky feature of the Disney World Orlando maps is that aren't exactly to scale. Sure, they'll show you how to get around but they tend to make the parks appear smaller than they really are. You'll discover that attractions can seem closer together than they are and you'll tend to underestimate how long it takes to get from here to there. For instance EPCOT's 300 acres and the lake can take a long time to walk through even without stopping at all the attractions.

Planning is important if you want to get the most so consider downloading maps of the parks from the Disney website. Figure out what rides and attractions you want to visit and how to get from one to the next. Know which ones have a FastPass system and remember that, depending on the time of year, many of the top attractions will have long lines unless you get there early. Since the theme park is subdivided into smaller areas, you can plan for these individual areas such as TomorrowLand or FantasyLand separately.

Another important use for Disney World Orlando maps is to help everyone meet if they get separated. Each family or group member should have their own copy of the theme park map with a meeting point and a time clearly marked on it. This is especially good for children - with a copy of the map with the meeting point clearly marked, they can also ask a Disney cast member for help in getting there. And, of course, for teenagers, who are even more likely than smaller children to either wander off on their own or insist on being able to go where they want, it's just as important. The maps can also be used to mark particular attractions you want to revisit and to make some simple notes about them. I've found this very helpful regarding eating places which you liked and want to return to on another day.

Remember that if you misplaced a map or forgot it, you can pick up new ones at the entrances to each theme park. Orlando area road maps will usually be available through your rental agency when you pick up your car.
