Disney Villas And The Disney Vacation ClubOne of the interesting features of the Disney World deluxe resorts is that they also have Disney Villas. This are actually a feature of the Disney Vacation Club and they are basically time-shared. Now in a normal time-share, you own a certain number of weeks of the villa or condo and can choose to stay there during your period, swap it around for a different period or in some cases rent it. As always, Disney has a different setup than the usual and uses a point system rather than a weeks-based system. There are three main areas where you'll find the villas: the Disney Beach Club Villas, Disney's Boardwalk villas and the Animal Kingdom Villas. Here's the way the Disney Vacation Club works. You buy points and the more points you've purchased, the more time you can stay or the more luxurious the villa you can select. Most people will buy somewhere between 200 and 300 points at the cost of around $100 each. Then, every year you also will need to pay a fee of somewhere around $3 to $6 per point. The points can be used however you wish. You could use them for a series of short stays in a year, save them up for a really big vacation, even borrow points from the next year to have a long vacation this year. And there's no restriction on where you actually stay and some people have never even visited the particular villas they bought points in. The difference is that for your particular Disney Villa, you can book up to 12 months in advance while for the others you can only book 7 months in advance. Actually the Animal Kingdom Villas, which will have an African theme, aren't scheduled to open until the fall of 2007. Like all the Disney World hotels and resorts, the Disney Villas are themed and the Boardwalk villas are reminiscent of a 1940's style hotel. These are about 10 years old and were the first to be built. They are close of Disney-MGM Studios and EPCOT. The Disney Beach Club villas opened in 2002 and also close to Disney-MGM and EPCOT with a yacht, boating and beach theme within a grand hotel style setup. While it is possible to stay in the Disney Villas even if you haven't purchased points in the Disney Vacation Club, it's expensive enough to make you think at least twice. Just a week at Disney's Boardwalk villas will run you around $3700 for a one bedroom villa in October. So, if you plan on visiting Disney World frequently and like the idea of a homelike atmosphere with all the added advantages of a fine hotel, becoming a member of the Disney Vacation Club can be a financial advantage. Plus, those points you accumulate can actually be used at Disney Villas, hotels and resorts anywhere in the world. |
