The Disney Orlando Theme ParkWhen you're looking for a vacation that's likely to win over everybody, you can hardly miss by choosing a Disney Orlando theme park vacation. With everything from the Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks, through the 4 huge theme parks, hotels and other attractions making up the Walt Disney World resort complex, there's something for everyone. Orlando also boasts a variety of other theme parks such as Sea World, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. ANd that doesn't even include the shopping, restaurants and other entertainment attractions in and around the Orlando area or within a short drive. Spend a week or a month and you could still be doing something different every day. For thrills and theme parks, it's hard to imagine a better place than Orlando and the Disney Orlando theme parks are the area's crown jewels. Disney's Magic Kingdom is rated first among the world's tourist attractions and the other 3 theme parks fall in the top 10. The Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney-MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom comprise the major Disney attractions. The Magic Kingdom was the first theme park developed by Disney Corporation and opened in 1971. At 36 years old it remains Disney flagship park. With continuous monitoring and the upgrading and development of rides and attractions, the Magic Kingdom has retained it's magical attraction for people of all ages. It's almost uncanny how some of the very earliest rides such as Space Mountain have continued to maintain their popularity across generations. Pirates of the Caribbean was perhaps the first ride ever to influence a major film. EPCOT was the second of the Disney Orlando theme parks to open and focuses primarily on world cultures and technology. While somewhat stylized, the pavilions for various countries, mostly along the shores of the lake, do you give a flavor of the uniqueness of their cultures. With the large lake and the open space, EPCOT is a more tranquil environment than the Magic Kingdom. When you've thrilled out, relax a little and take in the exhibits at EPCOT. Originally meant to be a ride at the EPCOT theme park, Disney-MGM studios rather quickly turned into the third theme park. Inspired by films and TV, it opened in 1989. At one time it was actually a functioning studio and a number of TV series were produced there. Now it's dedicated entirely to the magic and illusion of film and TV. With exciting rides, shows and parades (and some unusual architecture), it's a must visit attraction. Animal Kingdom, the largest Disney Orlando theme park is also the newest. Only recently coming onto it's own as a result of the brilliant Expedition Everest and the quality of it's shows, it's one of the few places most of us will ever have an opportunity to get a sense of what an African safari could be like. More relaxing than either the Magic Kingdom or Disney-MGM (except perhaps for Expedition Everest which is a world class roller coaster), it is filled with brilliant examples of the way Disney is so superb at the details that contribute to a great theme park. You may have heard people say that they skipped it - don't make the same mistake. |
